	Conveniently located only 35 miles southeast of Chicago, Cedar Lake Ministries offers many possibilities for off-site activities for your group.

	Downtown Chicago, Illinois (35 mi) - Take a day trip to The Windy City and visit such famous places as Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), Navy Pier, The John G. Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, The John Hancock Observatory, Water Tower Place, The Magnificent Mile, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Museum of Science & Industry, Buckingham Fountain, Lincoln Park Zoo, The Art Institute, Millennium Park, Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field, Oak Street Beach ....the list is almost endless!

	Shrine of Christ's Passion (5.5 mi) - You may consider combining your conference or retreat with a destination stop, such as the Shrine of Christ's Passion in nearby St. John, Indiana, a mere 5.5 miles away. The Shrine of Christ’s Passion is an interactive half-mile winding pathway that begins with the Last Supper and Garden of Gethsemane. The Journey consists of 40 life size bronze statues. Each setting has a listening station featuring the voice of veteran broadcaster Bill Kurtis. The trail provides a prayerful environment where people can open their hearts and draw closer to the Lord. The pathway is illuminated for early evening use. Admission is free.

	Historic Crown Point Square (8.6 mi) - Shopping, quaint restaurants, impressive buildings and storefronts. The three-story Antique Mall is an ideal location for antique shopping. The Sheriff’s House (built in 1882) formerly housed the Lake County Jail, the very place where John Dillinger made his fantastic escape in 1934. Northern Indiana Arts Association stands at the corner of the downtown square. And the lower level of the grand historic Courthouse in the center of the Square houses 13 unique shops with everything from gifts & collectibles, to gourmet foods and more.

	Golf - Several premium golf courses are located near Cedar Lake Ministries. 	Lemon Lake Park (4.2 mi) - encompasses 403 acres of rolling hills and open space surrounded by wooded areas. A 1-mile paved trail around the lake and more than 5 miles of primitive trails in hilly wooded terrain provide a wonderful opportunity for a nature walk. It is home to four 18 hole national championship disc golf courses, fishing (no license required), picnicking, softball fields, open play areas, a large creative playground, two sand volleyball courts, volleyball standards, paddleboat rentals, and a leash-free dog area. Cross-country ski rentals December through April. Parking fee when gatekeeper is on duty.

	Shopping in Merrillville (14 mi) - Visitors will be pleased to discover that shopping in Merrillville can include national chains, as well as independent shops and boutiques for more unique purchases. Westfield Southlake Mall includes over 170 stores including Macy's, Carson Pirie Scott, Sears, Hollister, Gander Mountain, and Dick's Sporting Goods. Nearby restaurants include Outback Steakhouse, Chipotle, Portillos, Pizzeria Uno, Olive Garden and much more. Star Plaza Theatre is a 3400-seat theatre which showcases current Pop/Rock artists, legendary Blues, Broadway shows, and nationally recognized comedians as well as family entertainment.

	Fair Oaks Dairy Farm (32 mi) - Take a little field trip to the coolest dairy farm in the country. Set in rural Fair Oaks, Indiana, Fair Oaks Dairy Farm is an experience to be treasured by the young or the young-at-heart. The dairy adventure tour educates visitors on the care of dairy cows, the milking process, and the production of dairy products. With 80 calves born per day, the most popular attraction at Fair Oaks Dairy Farm is the birthing barn. Experience first-hand watching a calf being born as you watch from a comfortable, air-conditioned motorcoach. Fresh cheese, milk and ice cream produced on the farm can be purchased. Bus tours are available to get a greater sense of the vast area that the dairy cows call home. Admission is $10.00 for adults, $7.00 for children ages 3-12, and free for children 2 and under. Discounts are available for seniors & groups.

	Albanese Candy Factory (20.2 mi) - Albanese is known for The Worlds Best Gummies which are the freshest, softest and the most mouth-watering gummi candy available. One of the world's largest producers of gummi candies, they also make a wide variety of European-style gourmet chocolates. A candy lover’s haven, Albanese offers thousands of different candies to satisfy any sweet tooth. Tours are available, check their website - it is recommended to call ahead.

	Deep River Water Park (21.9 mi) - There's a lot to do at Chicagoland's Largest, and the Midwest's Favorite Family Waterpark. All attractions are designed to provide activities for all ages and intensity levels...from easy flowing river rides to speed slides at near free-fall. Group rates available.

	Taltree Arboretum (27.5 mi) named among 10 arboreta in the US that "may well leave you speechless," according to an MSN Local Edition feature. Located south of U.S. 30 between Merrillville and Valparaiso, Indiana, Taltree is a 360-acre reserve of formal gardens, woodlands, wetlands, and prairies. Whether hiking the 3+ miles of trails or attending an outdoor concert or special event, visitors have enjoyed Taltree’s quiet beauty interspersed with friendly festivity since 1999. Themed displays include the Hitz Family Rose Garden, Native Plant Garden, Oak Islands, and the Taltree Railway Garden.

	Lighthouse Place Premium Outlet Mall (49 mi) - 120 Outlet stores just a short distance from Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
