Mens Retreat:
November 14-16, 2008
Theme: "Well
Done... good and faithful servant"
It is that time of year when my thoughts
turn towards one of my favorite Cedar Lake
events-our annual Men’s Retreat! I need the
retreat…I need to be in that fellowship. I
know many of you do as well. I can’t wait to
be with you guys again! And to have God move
in amazing ways!
This year’s retreat theme is “Well Done.” It is a great theme
on multiple levels. When I hear well done, I
think of two things… grilled meat (which I
am seriously addicted to) and Christ’s
parable of the servants.
I have heard our Men’s Retreat referred to as the MEAT
Retreat. And appropriately so, as there is a
large amount of meat eaten from Friday
supper to Sunday dinner. I say bring it on!
On a deeper level, “Well Done” refers to the scripture in
Matthew 25:21 where Jesus is talking about
faithful servants and unfaithful servants.
Servant is not a word we use a lot today
because it is so closely associated with
slave, and it isn’t always an easy word to
hear. As men, we are called to serve…like
Christ served…to lay down our lives for our
wives and families. The parable says if we
are faithful with what God gives us, we will
hear “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
Because I know so many of you I know that
this is your hearts passion.
This year, amidst charcoal and hickory smoke, let us continue
to fan this flame. Let us continue the
encouragement, the eating, and the serving!
For the Cause of Christ,
B. Lee Maize
Executive Director |
|
Speaker:
Tom Harmon & Lee Maize
Tom
Harmon and his loving wife Joyce
have been married for thirty-five
years. They have four married
children. Tom grew up in a Christian
home and trusted Christ at an early
age. Most of Tom’s early years were
not spent walking with the ways of
the Lord. In High School he enjoyed
football, basketball and track. Upon
graduation he attended Northern
Michigan University where he played
four years of college football, and
graduated with a Bachelor of Science
degree. In 1973 he graduated from
the Michigan State Police Academy
and was a trooper for eleven years.
Then in 1984 he sensed God’s call to
preach and resigned from the police
department to work for the Lord as a
full time itinerant preacher
speaking in churches, camps, and
Bible conferences.
Cedar
Lake’s own Executive Director Lee
Maize will be the Sunday morning
grillmaster. In ministry for 15
years Lee will speak from the heart
about the reality of Christ and
living life. Come join Lee and all
the guys for this great weekend
away!

James Ward
James
Ward graduated with a B.A. in music
from Covenant College and married

Moore. Pursuing song writing and
contemporary Christian music,
touring the United States and Canada
extensively, he released 10 albums
and wrote several hit songs for
radio and congregational singing. He
penned the now standard alternate
tune to “Rock of Ages” that has
become a staple in congregations
throughout North America.
James completed his Master of Music
degree and taught high school choir,
jazz band, and music related courses
at Chattanooga Christian High
School. Shortly afterward, he became
director of music and worship at New
