Torrey Auditorium is one of the oldest buildings on site.
Set just back from the bluff overlooking
the lake, it
is one of the original Monon Railroad structures.
Many of
the old buildings were designed by
railroad architects, and therefore had
many similarities to depots of the time. It was
originally built to be a dance hall and
has been used as a library and a men's dormitory
as well. But for most of its history it has been used as an auditorium.
Renovated in the fall of 2000 with a new
foundation, windows, carpet, seating,
lighting and sound system, heating and
air conditioning, this building is full of history
and has been listed on the
registry of
National Historic Landmarks.
Looking up
at the original exposed trusses you can
almost hear the sounds of days gone by
-- music both secular and gospel,
filling the rafters. God has been
faithful in using this facility
to bring people to a place of
rest and restoration for over a
century!
Torrey has a raised platform and seats a maximum
capacity of 350.
