Plans for Summer 2020

From the Executive Director:

An Update on COVID-19 and Summer Camp

There is no question these are unprecedented times. It’s in these times we must continue to look to the Lord. He is the one that is always faithful and trustworthy. Isaiah 55:11 reminds us,

“so is my word that goes out from my mouth:

It will not return to me empty,

but will accomplish what I desire

and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

After much prayer, discussion, monitoring, and studying the ever-evolving COVID-19 situation, Cedar Lake Ministries has made the difficult decision to cancel all Summer Camps this year.

This has been a hard and painful decision for the ministry. Summer Camp is a critical way we see our mission fulfilled. Cedar Lake Ministries exists to provide an environment for evangelism and spiritual growth. The ever-changing CDC and state guidelines hinder the very things that make summer camp special and meaningful in the lives of campers. Intentional relationships between campers and counselors would have been restricted by masks and social distancing. The development process of group participation would have also been limited by the guidelines. Following the CDC and state guidelines would have become the primary focus rather than the hearts of campers.

COVID-19 has had a profound impact for many of us. Cedar Lake Ministries began seeing its effect on March 17th when Indiana’s governor signed an executive order suspending services to groups greater than 10. Then, on March 25th, our governor placed the state in a “stay-at-home” order. From March 17th through May 11th we were unable to reopen and serve guests at Cedar Lake Ministries. For a ministry that’s all about loving and serving people, this has been a hard and challenging season. Many of our retreat groups come from Illinois and the Chicagoland area, both of which are behind Indiana’s current reopening timeline. This has caused a significant impact on our ministry. To date, we have had to postpone or cancel three Spring Ladies Retreats, Spring Senior Day, Picnic at the Lake Concert, and our Fourth of July 5k Impact Run/Walk.

This summer will be like none we have experienced before. We take great comfort knowing God is in complete control and He loves us all very much. Not having summer camp this year will have a financial impact on the ministry. We recognize it will have an impact on families as well.

We ask every family that has paid a deposit or paid summer fees in full to prayerfully consider our need before making one of the following decisions.

1. Donate your deposit and registration fee to camp.
2. Donate only your $50 deposit(s), refunding any additional amount paid.
3. Apply your deposit and registration fee as a credit towards a future camp event.
4. We understand that many have fallen on difficult times during this pandemic.  If necessary, we will gladly refund the full amount paid.

In an effort to handle all the registrations effectively and efficiently, we ask you to indicate which option you select by using this link. Please note, we will refund using the original method of payment. If a selection has not been made by June 15, the funds will automatically be advanced to Summer Camp 2021 registration(s).

In spite of this news, we are currently working to offer a few creative and exciting activities/events to engage and encourage our residential and local communities. Information regarding these events will be published on our social media, website, and email correspondence.

Cedar Lake Ministries is passionate about our mission and will continue to be faithful and strives to fulfill it as unto the Lord. During these times, I have been reminded of Jeremiah 29:11-13,

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to

prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

you will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Your prayers for us as we navigate this season is greatly appreciated. Please know we are praying for you.

In His Grip,

Brent Knoll
